What You'll Learn: Using DOpus for Key Tasks

This course includes instructions for using DOpus for several important and timesaving organizing tasks.

With DOpus, these tasks can be done more accurately, thoroughly, and efficiently than you ever though possible.

  • Filtering files by file type or file extension, then separating them out while preserving folder structure.

  • Identifying Undated photos—those without an EXIF DateTimeOriginal—then separating them out while preserving folder structure.

  • Flattening the folder structure to remove unneeded folder levels.

  • Working with metadata, including removing unwanted metadata.

  • Using the powerful Rename feature for renaming files and Folders. Rename is also used to move files into a folder structure. Four Rename Presets are included.

Since I began using Directory Opus in late 2020, I have gradually learned what the important features are, and how to use them. I don’t use all its features or even understand all its capabilities. I have focussed my efforts on defining the organizing tasks I need to do, then figuring out how to accomplish those tasks using DOpus features.

I could not have figured out what I’ve figured out without the very generous assistance of the DOpus developers and other DOpus users. Whenever I ask a question in the Opus Resource Centre (Forum) I always receive helpful answers and advice—and very quickly.

What You'll Learn: Configuring DOpus

This course begins by guiding you through the process of adjusting Directory Opus 13 Preferences and other elements of the user interface to transform it from its basic default state into a very powerful tool for managing and working with all types of files—especially photos and videos.

  • Adjusting over 40 Preferences. Many improve how DOpus works with photos and videos.

  • Editing and creating Folder Formats for working with different types of files. Folder Formats control what metadata and properties columns will be displayed automatically based on the type(s) of files in a folder.

  • Customizing the Toolbars by rearranging items so that important features can be accessed more easily. That includes moving some buttons out of Toolbar menus and onto a Toolbar.

  • Saving the changes you made as a Configuration file to protect those changes.

What You'll Learn: Navigating DOpus

There are many ways folders and files can be accessed and viewed in DOpus. You’ll learn to make the most of the different options for different tasks.

  • Using Folder Tabs

  • Using Dual Display and multiple Listers

  • Using Details View or Thumbnails View

  • Using three types of Flat Views for viewing contents of folders and their subfolder.
